REVIEW: Circles – Sand and Wind

After taking a short break from writing, Melbourne progressive metal band Circles have returned with their explosive new track ‘Sand and Wind’.

This is Circles first new music since their 2013 debut album Infinitas, which captured the attention of progressive fans abroad and proved to be a powerful debut release.

Although new music has been on the down-low Circles have spent the past couple of years touring, including a European tour with The Dillinger Escape Plan and an appearance at Euroblast Festival.

With screaming vocals over a foundation of quick guitar riffs and strong bass, ‘Sand and Wind’ is a powerhouse of emotions and metal madness. It’s fast, it’s loud, and it’s fuelled by feelings of fury, frustration and isolation.

A recent roster change shows new guitarist Ben Rechter bringing his own style of progressive rock and adding to the evolving new sounds of Circles.

Launching the single at a sold out gig at The Workers Club, Circles’ return has set them up for an exciting year ahead.

‘Sand and Wind’ provides the first taste of the band’s sophomore album expected for release later this year.

Drummer Dave Hunter has teased the new album saying “This will be a side of Circles that people wouldn’t have heard before and we’re really excited about it!”
