11/3: Week In Review

1) The Kite String Tangle release new single and announce tour

Brisbane’s The Kite String Tangle this week previewed his new single called ‘Selfish’, which has been released through his own music label Exist. To celebrate, The Kite String Tangle will head off on a mini-tour this April, playing Sydney (Newtown Social Club, 6/4), Melbourne (Northcote Social Club, 8/4) and Brisbane (The Foundry, 13/4).

2) Airling announces national tour

Brisbane singer/ songwriter Airling has also announced an upcoming tour. Her new album ‘Hard To Sleep, Easy To Dream’ is released this April, and she will be embarking on an album tour this May. Playing in Adelaide (Jive, 19/5), Perth (Babushka, 20/5), Fremantle (Mojo’s Bar, 21/5), Sydney (Civic Underground, 26/5), Brisbane (Black Bear Lodge, 27/5) and Melbourne (Northcote Social Club, 3/6).

3) Bleeding Knees Club preview new single and announce new EP

Bleeding Knees Club have been busy playing shows recently, but earlier this week found time to show off their first single in three years. The single ‘Chew the Gum’ shares the same title as their upcoming EP, due out April 14th through Inertia Music.

4) International Women’s Day

Wednesday was International Women’s Day (IWD) and it was an occasion celebrated by many in the music industry. There was an abundance of IWD gigs across Australia, and several radio stations embraced women driven content. We featured some of our favourite local ladies kicking butt in the Australian music scene, you can read about it here.

5) A.B. Original win Australian Music Prize

Dynamic duo A.B. Orginal have taken out the Australian Music Prize for their debut album ‘Reclaim Australia’. The album features a great selection of guests including Thelma Plum and Archie Roach, and charted within the Australian Top 10 when it was released in 2016. Past winners of the prize include Courtney Barnett, Augie March and The Jezabels.

6) Clowns announce new tour and single

Melbourne legends Clowns  have previewed their latest single ‘Pickle’, which is the second single off their upcoming album ‘Lucid Again’ (out May 12th through Poison City Records). Clowns have announced a huge tour in support of this, playing ten massive shows across the country and finishing with a hometown show at The Corner Hotel on June 17th.
